Using layer mask allow people to make selective adjustment easily. With the help of layer masking people will be able to

• Make image overall brighter except certain areas

• Sharpen images

• Reduction noise to the background and not to the subject

So start now to get the goal!


•  Make sure the mask layer adjustment you want to apply on separate layer is done. For this select layer>Duplicate layer. Now you can go ahead to make the adjustment want to make the whole image. If you like to sharpen the image but not to the background then add up a mask by clicking add layer mask in the layer panel. Having done this you get a white rectangle to the right of the layer and this is mask.



•  Get the brush tool and paint in black the area you don't want to apply the adjustment. If you apply the adjustment to the small area then you have option to paint in black the entire image. Then add up sharpening to the area you want white.

This is amazing about layer masking and it completely reversible. Layer beneath revels by painting black and white painting uncover the top layer. By changing opacity, brush size and softness you can apply new adjustment. By clicking the Slush button you can observe where mask is applied. Black painted area will be appeared as red and no red area is applied area of mask.
